    Your Collection And Inventory

If you maintain an inventory of your collection, how do you do it? Spreadsheet, Coin Database, pencil and Paper, No Inventory? My 2016 paper and pencil version is getting old!

I used to have mine on an excel spreadsheet but remembering to update it didn't work for me....it was just too much like my old job

I keep mine stored in memory... Now if I could remember where I stored my memory I would know what I have

I use Exact Change by Wildman Software. It has updated PCGS coin values and an extensive coin database that covers all US coins and even world coins. It also allows you to add your photos of each coin (as many as you like, I believe, whereas most other software limits you to 4 max). I haven't kept mine up recently but I believe it even lets you follow your current eBay auctions as well as create a "want list ". I forget how much it costs but it offered much more than anything else I found for the money and they do not charge for updates. The developer used to even answer questions about it on Collectors Universe forum at one time. According to the reviews I searched, their customer service was second to none. They communicate via email but your questions are always answered in a timely fashion. I liked them because the owners are collectors, too. Not just software developers. When I bought it, they offered internet dowload or CD version. I'm no expert but I'm very impressed with this software. Here's the link:

Thanks very much for your detailed feedback Tracy. That sounds like it could be a winner! I'll check it out. I was also looking at Coin Manage http://www.libertystreet.com/Coin-Co...g-Software.htm

I took a red book, put everything in a red book on separate excel spread sheets based on coin denomination.
I have each denomination color code tabbed at the bottom so I can flip to what it is I need
I then put it in a file that I update and download to my smart MP3 player to take to shows.
I used to use a piece of paper.

Started with FoxPro in the 80's. Then Microsoft bought them out and let it go to pot. The upgrades cost more than my PC. They wanted to push Access.

So I did a data dump and put everything into Spreadsheets. I'm a database nut. Tweaking my DB is a big part of my collection. I can look at my cover sheet and tell how many Lincoln Cents I have by Date/MM, the date I got them and the cost, who I got them from and how many are still unsearched. Also index my EV's using the old PDS system . Maybe I should have a contest. The number of MV and how many are imaged, yes I track the too. It's the Eggnog . On second thought I don't have time for a contest
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to know what each of you are doing, to see if my thinking is the norm and on track.

I keep track of all my coins on PCGS's website. Both certified and non certified coins for all denominations. You can add photos, grades for non certified coins, your purchase price and where you purchased the coin from or how you obtained the coin. You can enter the PCGS number for any coin and it will show you the price and population for the grade you entered. It will also give you the PCGS population higher for coins graded above your coin. On top of all that when I get my non certified coins certified all I have to do is enter the certification number for the appropriate coin and everything is updated and the coin is added to the proper registry set/sets that currently have active. You are required to sign up for a membership but they have several different levels including a free membership.

I curently am working on 7 incomplete sets of Lincolns of various grades from Good or Less to MS 60 or Better. They are in folders or alblums and with each I have a check list that is updated when something is added . That is the best way for me . As for the varieties, I keep them in 2x2 plastic storage containers that hold the coin in place with a cardboard insert that you can wright on and they are aranged by date. I like it simple. Scott

I still do everything by EXCEL spreadsheet. I like being able to look at what I have in a coin / slab / I.D. all with one click of the mouse.
