Hello again everyone!

As a very small token of my esteem for all the wonderful things the LCF does and gives to others, I introduce my BELATED 2000TH POST/LCR/WILLBROOKS APPRECIATION CONTEST!!

Here's the specifics:

I will post pictures of 12 different coins which are either a mint error or variety. Below each coin's respective pictures, I will ask a series of questions. Each question will be worth 2 points each if answered correctly. Partial credit will be given for close calls. The top point getter will be declared the champion and there will be prizes for the next 4 highest point totals. This contest will close on Monday, June 20th at 9 PM Pacific Time. After that, I will tally the votes and update this thread with the winners.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

The entrant with the top point total will be declared the champion and will receive a pick of 4 coins out of the 12 contest coins as their initial prize.

The runner up will receive their pick of 3 out of the remaining 8 coins.

Third place will get to pick 2 of the remaining 5 coins.

Fourth place will get to pick 2 of the remaining 3 coins, and finally;

5th place will receive whatever coin remains.

Anyone who participates in this contest will receive some sort of prize so don't be shy! Just PM me a good address after the contest closes as well as a note about the types of coins you like to collect and I will do my best to make you happy:)!

I will likely need to add several posts to this thread to get all of the pictures up, but once the shots of all 12 coins are up, let the games begin!

Thank's for the inspiration to finally get me off my Butt, Will! The entries are trickling in, but hopefully most of you will participate sooner or later. There have been some pretty awesome scores laid down already!!

Don't be shy I would love to send you all out some free stuff!

This forum has advanced my collecting more than any other for that I will always be in its debt. It does feel good to give back in some small way.

Just returned from my trip, so I will make a stab at an entry just as soon as my wife stops nagging me. (I guess that means I am out) lol.

**UPDATE**

Not a lot of interest in my contest, but that doesn't surprise me with all the over giving people on this site:)! Come on people, don't be shy! You all give so much, so let me send you out some free coins too - :LOL_Hair:.

I think I will run this as a two stage contest and tally the winners for the first stage at 9 PM tonight as planned, then add some new prizes and extend this contest another week just in case some people missed it.

Here are the current scores and rankings:

#1) centMD with a perfect score of 46 points out of 46!! WAY TO GO :eclipsee_bronze_cup!!

AND we currently have a TIE for second place!!

#2) Willbrooks (44/46) and jay4202472000 (44/46)! Well done guys!!

I could give the edge to Jay here, as he submitted his answers within 20 minutes of the contest start, but Will had some interference which can make anything tough:). I will work out a tie breaker and get back to you guys asap!

Once again, this contest is open to anyone (especially new members)!! I will send out prizes to anyone who enters, so have fun if you dare:)! Have a great week and happy searching everyone!!

John

Did Will and I miss the same one or different ones? I'm pissed at myself for missing something. Not because of a prize. You've been WAY too generous to me over the past few months already. I thought for sure I had 'em nailed. I would do these types of contests for fun. I love them. You can never have enough practice attributing varieties.

Congrats centMD and Will! Thanks John!

You both missed the same coin actually:). I will post the correct answers eventually, but now that the first round winners are set, I'm going to leave this up as stated because there are still open spots on the podium and I have a good number of coins still to give away. Dave you are not too late! Anyone else that at least try's will be awarded some sort of prize. I may be slow to update this thread as I am traveling until Friday, but I will do my best! Good luck to anyone that's interested and thanks for the good fun everyone!

I bet it was the FY. I just didn't have the patience to look thoroughly through 16,000 listings. :LOL_Hair:

I think I got the '09. I didn't go any farther, but DDR-011/1DR-015 sure looks right. I was torn on the two similar '04-D DDRs. Die 1 might have been too obvious. Die 4 looks practically identical. Then again, it could have been one of the "estimate the die stage" questions.

I think I got the '09.

Nope. That's the one. Every other one of these minted has a die crack on the arm.

Dan, I deleted your answer. I don't think John is ready to divulge yet, since the contest is still open. But yes, I figured that was the answer. I had it down to 2 possibilities, but neither one looked like an exact match of the crack to me. So, I just had to pick one. I actually had your answer down first and then switched it to the other. Of course, I should have kept my first answer. I should know better! lol. Oh well. I love taking part in these! It was a lot of fun. Thank you, John! Congrats on the win, Dan. I was mainly just in it for the fun, but I admit there was 1 coin I was interested in. Now, I will have to get even by making my own contest. You have never had the pleasure of one of my contests, have you? Guess you were too busy with your schooling at the time. With your keen diagnostic abilities, you would do well.

Whoops sorry about that John! I mistook that part of the contest for being over lol! :squigglemouth: Hopefully some other members jump in as well now! Lots of good coins to go around. :)

Will good catch. I'll watch out for your contests too! I have yet to do one and I'm guessing they are pretty tough. I was fortunate to have a free hour when John set this one up.

I received a ridiculously generous prize package yesterday. Even though I only asked for one coin.... Anyway, EVERYTHING John sent was either a new variety for me, or else an upgrade, so all I can say, John, is WOW, and THANK YOU VERY MUCH! John also included a very nice personal letter which darn near made me cry...er...I mean, it was probably just some verdi-care got splashed on my glasses... :tinysmile_twink_t:
Anyway, my son was just soooooo tickled to be adding the 1960 small date to his BU Dansco book. These coins were all taken from circulation or roll hunting, but it is doubtful we'll ever find the 2 rare small dates, so we cheated this time! :sign10: Anyway, remember how much fun it was to fill the holes in your book? Thank you again, John. And my son also says. "Thank you, Mr. John." Finding the time and effort to run a contest like this is challenging, I know, so your generosity with time and coins is so greatly appreciated. YOU DA MAN!
