Thanks for posting this here. I Have banned myself from posting on the other forum you shared this. I do peek in from time to time though. Kudos to you for studying and knowing what you have! I wonder how many other people have posted legitimate varieties/errors over there and get told it's a plating blister or something else? Awesome find there!

Yes, they initially told me it was plating blisters until I took pictures to prove it from the books. When I think I see something, I try to look it up. It does not always work out for me there. But I have been trying to study the books as much as possible.

"They" also didn't just come up with this coin recently to create interest in roll searching. It's been known about since 1999. Just a word of advise I figured out the hard way...if you are interested in Lincolns, post your questions here. There is way too much misinformation spread over there. I bet you noticed no one denounced the coin here. These guys just plain know Lincolns.

Sometimes, I post on both to get the most input as possible. Sometimes I also have silly questions. I ask because I want to learn as much as possible. Thank you for the advice.

You mean there is another coin forum besides this one?! :squigglemouth: Actually, I can see where someone who is ignorant of this variety might say plating blisters, but geez, this IS one of the more well-known CPG varieties for Lincolns. Yeah, I pretty much stay away from those other places too. There are just way too many folks with 50,000 posts who never actually say anything, and when they do, it is often incorrect. I am much happier with a small number of answers that are helpful and accurate. I just get really bothered reading through those threads that are 17 pages long and have only one or two pertinent posts in them.

Thank you!!! You wouldn't believe what I use to take the pictures. These are the 3 magnifying tools I use and my iPhone to take the pictures with. Amazing what you can do when your limited finances and have very cheap equipment. Lol, it took a while to figure out how to get good pictures. http://www.lincolncentforum.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=112180&stc=1

I'm a member of the other one also. There is a certain group of members there that enjoy talking down to others. I don't know how they aren't kicked off the forum. I'm happy we have this one where adults act like adults. Well, except for maybe Jim and Will!

Lol!! Yes, I often see the drama on the other one. I don't do drama. I prefer to stay out of it. My life is simple and extremely drama free, so I tend to stay away from people that are involved in it. I like to joke around and have fun. I have a wonderful marriage and we almost never argue. Even after almost 16 years and 2 kids later. Drama free!! I agree with you!!

I agree wholeheartedly. I threw away a couple of doubled die's based on bad advice from idiots. Now I know better.

Nice pick! You asked what it might be worth...as far as I can tell, maybe 10-$15 ? A past search of examples on Ebay will give you a real time value.

Thank you!! Wow, 10!! Awesome! I have only been doing this for about 10 months and I have found a few really good ones. I found a 1999 wide AM in MS 63 condition. I just recently sold it.

Well? The original question in this discussion was "does anyone know what the coin is worth?"
I don't mean to butt in, please forgive me, but I would like to know as well.
Also I found your discussion about getting different information in different places, I have experienced the same. I have some (I think) super neat varieties, errors, etc, and have gotten shot down in some forums.
Also, I have questions like... If you look online at Wexlers list of double die variaties, they have one listed for almost every year, yet I've heard some say in this coin community that there can only be certain years and varieties, also I have a 2017 red book that only lists certain years... please help me! Lol oh yeah and then you also have the "cherry pickers" list... what in the world should I follow lol

Sheila ruley
07-19-2016, 11:44 PM
Right! That is why I ask. I also look on EBay to see what they are selling for and have sold for. There are so many prices that it's hard to decide what it your coin is really worth. I run into the same problem. Lol.

J.Rudd

What did you get for the 1999 wide? And I will look at eBay to get different ideas but I don't follow them, they are so narley with their prices, I saw what they were caking a 1943 copper cent on there for like $0.99 and one for $20k supposedly in the same condition? Confusing to me... I have a hard time distinguishin between machine doubling and rotated die doubling also, plus you got other types... I keep looking though lol

I sold the 1999 wide AM to a dealer for $130.00. You really can't get nearly as much for them now because they are not in popular demand. I think that may be a big factor in it.

WaterSport
07-20-2016, 07:59 AM
Many discovery coins start off with very high values, like the wide AM's and then as more are found and demand is filled the price can drop dramatically. We know for instance that the 1999 is the scarce one now, while the 98 and 2000 are rather common. I am not sure who here remembers, but the 1999 was selling for $1000 at one time. Now only if those 1992 closed AMs would do the same and fall in price .....
