Came across this whilst thumbing thru my old collection. There is a little bit of separation (which of course my scanner swallowed), but I was hoping maybe there were some die markers that might aid in ID. Can't find ANY 1953-S examples on any of the usual sites!

Nice chocolate brown but where was the separation showing. Since the scanner swallowed the separation we need a little guidance, unless you can get the scanner to cough it back up! :LOL_Hair:

I can't see doubling either... I do see what appears to be some isolated MD on the T of LIBERTY???

The B in Liberty is flared somewhat oddly like some of the class 6 dies do but it doesn't appear thick enough. Is there a nub under the Y? I seem to remember a little known DDO that exhibits doubling to the south on the 53-S but I'm not positive.

Aw geez...yeah that woulda been nice if I'd remembered to annotate it!

Essentially the PUPs are LIBERTY and IG.

This scanner is little more than a nerdy light show. Guess I can only squeeze so much out of 1200 resolution! Software goes higher, but sharpening what's not there to begin with is an exercise in futility.

Who knows...maybe Santa's running early this year! ;)

I see what appears to be MD, but also keep in mind there was some series doubling on the master hubs for this year.

What's shown in the example for the "B" in Liberty...seems exactly what I'm seeing. Thanks for that link! :tinysmile_classes_t

I don't see anything on that 53.

For those early 50s it's good to look below LIBERTY, there are a bunch of similar DDOs that show up there
Some years including 43 have some that show below the TY.
Probably easy to miss them if not on your radar because they're light and you might only see them at the right lighting/angle, anything 40s-50s it's good to focus there so you don't miss them.

1943: (I have several from other dies that show well on TY, this one only shows on Y)
