Trail lines are seen below the 2 of Date and above MERI of America.

Moderators, please let me know if you want me to just do one 2016 Trails post and keep adding to it, or if you prefer each post to be separate?

Thank you!

New coin, new thread, please. Definitely another die damage from rotary tool...er, I mean, trail die.

The reverse looks to be design extension dimples to me.

You believe in that, but not festivus?

I don't think either requires "belief". The former is observation the latter, history.

When are you supposed to put up the festivus pole?

Trail dies, die cracks, die breaks, die chips, struck through,MD, ddo, ddr, rpm....whatever the case may be....brings us all together as collectors....division, patronizing, elitism, will only bring the hobby down.

Nothing like that is intended Roger; I thought we were just engaging in some good natured bantering.

He's bitching at me, George, not you. No worries.

Nice find Vivien... Dual sided... I am unable to figure out the directions in degrees at this moment... Eye/brain interconnect is not working... Need more coffee :LOL_Hair: I also see the die dimples and have seen them a lot on the shield cents and other denominations!!!

George, the reason I don't think it is Design Extension Dimples is the area that I am seeing what I believe is a trail line is raised and DED's are indents on the coin. This coin's surface is more bumpy than other 2016's I've seen and it's real shiny so the raised area looks thicker and difficult for me to photograph. Thank you for taking a look, I could be wrong on this one and it ends up being gouges or something else tho.

Thank you Jim for looking and I agree with you, it is coffee time! Will have to see what BJ finds on this one. Whenever something gets questioned, it makes me take a step back and think. Thinking is a good thing, it helps us grow. It's not about being right, if you are wrong. Going for the coffee now!!

Ah, yes...our morning coffee! That first gallon or so always tastes so GOOD...

I'm really beginning to get into trail dies and clashes as time goes on. Obviously my first 'love' will be hub doubling, but especially since my time here I've grown fond of the others to nearly the same degree. This is an AMAZING find to me, with the trails on two sides!

Follow-up on clashing...I'm almost surprised when I pull an early 80's cent and DON'T find some degree of clash on it. :)

Hello Frank, nice to meet you! Thank you for the nice comment! We are on the same page with the coffee thing and what we like to look for on Lincoln's :)

Nice coin Viv !
I have been setting a few coins aside that may make for interesting conversation about trails and abrasion draging from design elements. That is if I can ever find time to take some pics !

Is it bumpy or a wavy look... On pics you posted above it looks wavy like an Orange Peel effect - From the Glossary -

Orange Peel: A somewhat nebulous term to describe a coin whose surface has a textured bumpy surface like that of an orange. Coins can get this orange peel look from different causes including annealing (http://www.lincolncentforum.com/terminology-list-a/#Annealing) and polishing issues of the die, or from die deterioration (http://www.lincolncentforum.com/terminology-list-d/#Die Deterioration), or also from plating problems on plated coins.

The pics in the glossary are from a coin I found... I believe I have some extras (I will have to pull them out)... PM me your address if you would like one!!!

Thank you Jim! It's not quite orange peel, just bumpy and shiny. Two things that make photos hard to take, the light bounces all over the place and makes it hard to focus. I have sent several to BJ that I could not post on LCF because I could not get a decent photo, mostly because the coin is too shiny. Thank you so much for offering to send me an orange peel coin example! I have a few saved myself, as examples for my children. Very kind gesture, thank you!

Cool... Since I can not find the ones I have kind of a good thing you didn't need one :LOL_Hair: Here is the link to the ones I found (Will was gracious enough to use it in the glossary) http://www.lincolncentforum.com/forum/showthread.php?33416-2014P-Minor-Class6-Strike-thru-cracks-and-Orange-Peel
