The rim anomaly appears to be from slightly misaligned dies. A partial collar strike would show as a bi-level EDGE. The term "railroad rim" is a misnomer. Should be called a "railroad edge," in my opinion. All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. Taking them may result in serious side effects. Results may vary. Offer not valid in New Jersey. -
Nice images... Really sharp... I'm with Will on the slight MAD... The hair does look like wear... The area from just below the ear to the pony tail is isolated MD!!!Jim

for questions regarding partial collar or out of collar strikes you should look at the edge of a coin
So when a coin is struck the disk that is metal that will be the coin is the planchette
the planchette has a slightly smaller diameter than the coin it will make
it falls into a round device called the collar
a coin struck out of the collar will spread outward and will have a larger diameter than the coin it will become
a coin struck with a partial collar will have the edge being 2 diameters
it should show some of the diameter of the coin (were the collar stayed) and also be bigger in some spot (where the collar was not in place)
the pics are of a dime that is struck with a partial collar
since there is no collar (where the reeding is at) there is no reeded edge on the coin where there is no collar at during the strikeAttached Files- A024 - 20150729_195947.jpg (145.5 KB, 4 views)

Thank you! I have a dime with this on it. Thank you this clarification. When I googled this, it shows pictures of both. Confusing to me.Comment
