I have been determined to find a specimen of the Lincoln Cent 1969-S Doubled Die notorious variety. Although perseveringly looking through hundreds of thousands of circulation coins, at the very least, only confirmed of its scarcity, the expanding knowledge in numismatic history I picked up along my treasure-hunting quest and the completion of my personal Lincoln cent business-strike collection are by far the most rewarding aspects of my journey. I posted pics of some of my findings below. Did I find anything ?

Let me be the first of many who will welcome you to this forum!

I think many here have been looking for the elusive 1969 S DDO and are always amazed when someone finds one. One recently turned up at the Long Beach Coin show in Feb. Here is the story. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/995636/long-beach-miracle/p1

As for your example it is not DDO # 1 nor DDO # 2. The problem in general with varieties is that ownership sometimes confuses what the truth in hand actually is. We want to believe we found an example, even though known photographs, die markers, stages, etc., demonstrate we are wrong. Here is a good source for a 1969 S DDO comparison.

The best way to do a search for any variety is to build up a Search Image. That is to say, get as many know examples or resources where you can find those examples and study them. More importantly study why yours is NOT that example and discipline yourself away from believing every coin is a holy grail. You will be surprised how confident you will become when you do find a variety.

Happy Collecting and get back to your searching!

This is machine doubling which effects many, many, many 1969 S cents
the Mint Mark is added to the die after it is hubbed
If you see a S that looks like it is doubled and the double is flat like. it is MD.
I was born in 1969 so this is a coin I search for and I have held one once.
But to own it ... not yet.
Good Luck
