I have examples of a 1944-S DDO from two die states. I have not been able to find this one in VV/CC/Wexler. Let me know what you think:

Very nice DDO!! I wore myself out on this one! I know you have it listed as a DDO and I'm sure it is but check out RMP's on cc, 009. I couldn't quite make it work but had a hard time letting go of it.

Wow my eyes are really off tonight.
I wouldn't have thought they were the same die. There is no paddle on the tail of the 9 on the weaker one.
And the bottom right of the first 4 has no "nub" on the weaker one.

That is what I was wondering. That first 4 looks very different and the left one the 9 looks pretty normal but the right one looks paddled. How are we sure they're the same die, what markers are common?

Thanks Ed, I was really wondering about my eye/brain connection. :tinysmile_cry_t3:

I wondered the same thing when I first looked at them both but found a few markers earlier tonight that made me feel they were the same die. I'm not sure now but saw a few file lines that did line up perfectly.

Thanks Jon. I would have expected the later die state to make the paddle bigger on the 9, not eliminate it.

The later state coin has suffered from significant surface sanding/grinding. Look at the earlier state coin, and imagine what would happen if the field was heavily sanded. The features would be lower, and narrower. Features like the various nubs, or widening of the features near the field, would disappear. I think that's what happened on this die as it was used and resurfaced.

Man-o-man , the mint polished the patooty out of that LDS one.

Do you see any thing on the rest of the coin???

Not much...there is a very (very) light die gouge beneath G in GOD, and a small die "dot" between the F and A in OF AMERICA.

I've just been informed that this coin has been listed by CONECA as

1944S DDO-012 (12-O-II-C + VI) stage E LMDS

Woohoo again!

I've been out of town visiting folks in Tenn. Happen to visit LCF and find Ray has been buzzzy getting his varieties to CONECA. Congrats again Ray on your new listing and persistence.
