This looks like the beginning of a Flying D from 1958.
Anybody remember seeing one with the die chip on the 1 of the date?

I don't recall seeing that particular die chip on the 1 before, but a die crack going from the tail of the 9 into the mint mark occurred on many dies in this era.

Cool... The one looks like the sledge hammer that cracked the die :LOL_Hair: That area was a weak spot on the dies in the 50s kind of like the 80s memorials with the cracks from the corners and the upper left of the shields... I do not remember seeing a flying D from 58???

Maybe this was the Flying D to be and never got off the ground.
