This one seems to be closest to Variety Vista- 1972 D- DDO-002 stage D.
Without the die clash. Maybe something in between stages D and E. What do you guys think?

Yes, I think you got it right as that DDO. Not totally sure of the stage. Nice find, it would be easy to miss with all the hits and it's one of those dies that had some weak areas from the start. See a lot of that on 71 and 72 where the die looks like the hubbing wasn't complete or wasn't flat.

Exactly! It is pretty beat up. It wasn’t hard to tell that it was clearly doubled. It was harder to pick whether it is a stage D or E, or a combination of both.

Lol!! My basic setup for searching and taking photos. A tiny, made in China, $2 handheld 60x microscope, I prop coins on top of each other to balance the tiny microscope in exactly the positions needed to get good enough focus on the area that I need. A small flashlight with 2 magnetic clips attached to a scale for support steadiness and a good angle. An iPhone to take pictures with and a larger microscope. Here are my ways of having to take pictures. 135299 I have to hold the phone at different angles to get a clearer photo of the entire coin. 135300 I use the flashlight and tiny microscope to search the coins. 135305 I have to carefully line up the phone camera with the microscope lens without touching the microscope. 135303 135304 And that’s how I do it!! LOL, We have to be creative!! I don’t know why the pictures are turning sideways and upside down.

That is some painstaking creativity Sheila! You've been doing this for quite some time now and you have figured out what is needed to get clear shots... now, how you have gone about it all is genius! I'm pretty blown away here!!!

LOL! If you only knew half of the stuff I have to create! I make keys for the doors out of paper clips. I had to make a replacement piece out a metal picture frame hanger to replace a rusted broken prong in a toy for my son to make it work with the batteries. Plastic bag piece with a rubber band to put over the place you put break fluid in the motor of our car because the cap got lost. (I initially used a condom), then replaced it with the piece of plastic bag and a rubber band. I rig all kinds of stuff. My husband is not mechanically inclined by any means. He is better at a housewife and I am the one that does all the things that guys usually do. Lol!!

OMG Sheila, you sound just like my mom! She can fix anything from washer/dryers to replacing parts in cars! When we were kids, we knew better than to ask Dad to fix something for us. It's amazing what you think of to do with some rubber bands, plastic bags and pieces of metal... can't forget the duct tape!!!

Duct tape! Fraying carpet you cannot afford to replace, use Duct tape to stop the fraying when walking around and vacuuming!! Broken bottle top?? No problem!! Just use tape!! 135312 135313 If you have to plaster a hole in the wall and then you do not have any paint to cover it, just put a decorative sticker on it! 135314 Super greasy hair? Use Dawn Dish Detergent! Wash your hair 2x and then put conditioner in!! Well, there’s you some ideas!!

Good work Sheila!
I always say "use the simplest tool you got". People might tell you "you can buy the super perfect tool for that" but I think the cost of having the perfect tool for everything might cost more than everything I fix. So fix it for free if you can :)

I know that feeling... I used to do that a lot... That's why I like my image stacking software... I can take 3 to 5 pics each one slightly out of focus stack 'em and wala 1 pic in focus better than I could with 100 out of focus to get 1 useable!!!

I like your style :LOL_Hair: If the holes aren't to big no need to buy a big can of wall compound... Toothpaste works and even smells better... When you need to fix a bigger hole buy the wall compound then fill in the little holes if you can find them :LOL_Hair:

Nice find Sheila... To me it looks like VVs Stage D http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20Doubled%20Dies%20Vol%202/1972DDDO002.htm#Photographs Look at the die wear along IN GOD... Yours looks to be a perfect match in Stage D... Especially along the tops of GOD!!!

Yes. I did see that. To me, it does look exactly like the stage D. It is because it it was pretty beat up that distorts some of it. At least, that is my opinion. That’s what makes it look kind of like a combination of stage D and E. The reason I thought possibly a combination of D & E is because the stage D has a die clash. The stage E does not.

Without the clash yours would be an early Stage D or late Stage C... VV http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20Doubled%20Dies%20Vol%202/1972DDDO002.htm#Photographs shows the clash on Stages D, E and F... The clash is really weak in Stage E and nearly gone in F... Comparing the doubling on the west side of the letters of IGWT between your coin and Stages C an D yours most closely resembles D... The strength of the doubling has diminished due to die wear... The doubling on yours has weakened significantly compared to Stage C but not as much as Stage D... I hope I explained that correctly and it helps!!!
