Nice find.
By the looks of the details this might have been the last one minted from the die pair. :)

Jim I think it's Die # 3.Rev has counter clockwise rotation. Lower left part of O in one has spread into field.

Absolutely awesome. In fact, finding a regular 1922 D would be awesome.

Nice find!

What was the bag from?

I purchased 3 bags of wheats @ estate sale during the summer. I have been working one of the bags for a while with some success.

I think you are correct... Even with the circ wear the obv diagnostics look really close to Die 3 No D Weak Reverse #5... Do you have any of the other 6 http://www.lincolncentresource.com/1922Ddievarieties.html listed on LCR???

It brings up the ever lasting question, what is a die variety and what is an error and what is a quality issue. :)

One of the oddball things is that attributors and sites gave die numbers for the 22 cents.
If you find an early die state from any of those dies that still has a D no TPG will give it the die number.
In my own OCD, I call these errors, maybe quality issues and I call the different ones "types".

It's one coin that gets referred to differently than all others, it breaks the rules we tend to accept in nomenclature but everyone has always described them that way. :)

To me quality issues and errors go hand in hand... Missing errors on a quality control check is an error in its own rite and errors are a quality control issue!!! :)
