I came across this 1980 D last night. I'm not sure if it's a rim cud or just a high rim that has been flattened over time. It runs on the rim about midway between LIBERTY and IN GOD, but it is more proounced over GOD. Any thoughts?

Much appreciated. When you have the forum page up hit the "HOME" link above the posts, this of course will take you to the home page. Look to the right and you will see all kinds of cool stuff, including "Links". Cuds on Coins are only one of the great links this forum has made available to you.

Nice find... Is there any signs on the edge of the coin that the collar was broken??? By the looks of the area at IN GOD especially at the rim cud the collar may have broken???

No. I've looked through examples to be sure what I was looking for, and I see no signs of a collar break.

Did you look thru Error Ref http://www.error-ref.com/?s=collar+break In Part IV the 60D collar break (Rim Cud) looks very similar to yours... Yours looks to start just south of the 10:00 position and goes north to just above the D in GOD!!!

Yes, Error Ref is one of the places I looked and I dont see anything on my coin resembling any of the examples there. Would a rim cud like that generally be the result of a collar break?

It could be when other things like the distorted area you have on yours is present and you have evidence of the collar break!!!
