Searched all the listing and no match was found for this 1950 s RPM, it has sort of a grainy texture perhaps the markers are there but hard to see. I went by the mint mark position and the one that looks close is VV 011. I welcome your input, Thanks for looking.....................dinkyblue

Definitely see that curve inside the MM. Nice find but I can't compare to 011 right now.

1950-S W011/RPM#11 has both split serifs upper and lower and a curve inside the lower loop. I do not see split serifs on this coin. I don't believe this is an RPM. Sorry

It is possible not for it to be an RPM, what is the curve inside of the mint mark? any ideas are welcome.............Dan

I picked VV 011 only because of the mint mark placement not that it matches.............Dan

Ok Dan,
Just trying to get you to learn. Here is my copy of RPM#11 Stage "B" with arrows on what you should be looking for.
Eric

First Pic is the OBV Marker
Second pic is the serif from the South
Third Pic shows the lower curve or East and the upper serif.

I think what you are seeing in the upper curve is part of the punch. Maybe someone else has a better idea but I have seen this on many different dies with many different mintmark positions.

I said no match was found, just trying to find out what it is, your explanation sounds reasonable, if a punch caused it then there should be more of these around somewhere, I didn't find any information on it though ...............Dan

I agree with Eric on this one. I have seen the same anomaly on a few, If it is not an RPM, then there may not be any more information on it. That would explain the difficulty finding something on it. Please remember that the punches used could have any number of defects as we see on some other years like 1979 and 1974.
On your coin, I cant see any indication of a repunching outside of that area either.

I agree with both of you, I took about 15 pics rotating the coin a little at a time, and have a look, it doesn't show anything there strange but true. I now know you have to take a lot of pictures at different angles to really see what's going on. ..............Dan

Thank you for your reply Jim, after taking photos and rotating the coin a little at a time changing the light angle, really helps you see more of what is going on. I will use this method from now on. I agree with Eric and Bob it's not an RPM but it is still a nice looking 1950s wheatback. I found a 1952s with notches on the MM, not sure which RPM it is yet, also a 1983 with a large cud, I think it is number 29 I'll post them soon. Thank again................Dan

You are welcome Dan... I went back and looked at VVs 011 (http://varietyvista.com/02a%20LC%20RPMs%20Vol%201/1950SRPM011.htm) and realized that your MM is to far east to be 011... At least I caught that :LOL_Hair: Looking forward to your other coins... They sound interesting!!!
