Any help with this 1972 S Lincoln would be appreciated. There is some doubling in the 7 and 2 of the date and a bump in the bar of the 2 similar to the 1972S-1DO-002. What is unique and that I don't find mentioned anywhere is the doubling of the eye.

Thanks in advance

This is the result of a doubled master die. About half of all 1972 cents have this doubling, so it isn't anything special. But good eye to notice it. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

Those are some good pics, however, determining if there is any doubling may require a close-up of the date. With the lighting and wear on the coin it may be tough to make a determination.

The doubling on the eye looks interesting.

You mentioned 1do-2 so I did a quick overlay [years-aligned] and that is definitely not it -- The yellow arrows point to your mintmark [to the north].

Hopefully someone else can chime in with a more definitive answer.

Checked out Coppercoins and found only one double die variation that mentions cameo doubling. 1972S-1DO-001P.

Welcome to the forum. What do you mean cameo doubling? Also, the correct term is " doubled" not double.

OK, got it. Doubled. Enamel7. Thanks. Cameo can be defined as the raised portrait profile of a piece of art. It was not my choice of words but how the doubling effect was described on Coppercoins. You can see the doubling in the eye of my coin.

Welcome to the Forum!

As already stated by Will, this is a doubled master die, extremely common. I can't quite tell if the date and eye are from lighting or machine doubling but looks like machine doubling. LINK http://www.lincolncentforum.com/terminology-list-m/#Machine%20Doubling

Are the same dies used to strike business coins and proof coins?

Are the same dies used to strike business coins and proof coins?Typically not. There are special dies for the proofs but I think I remember someone, much more learned than me, saying that there was a situation where old proof dies were used for business strikes, thinking maybe it was a one time deal. I'm sure someone will help or correct me about this.

A proof die is specially prepared and only strikes a couple thousand coins. Business strike dies are sometimes used for up to a million strikes.
