I didn't find an RPM match. Can anyone help me with this one? VV (http://varietyvista.com/02a%20LC%20RPMs%20Vol%201/RPMs%201943D.htm) W (http://doubleddie.com/887255.html) Thanks for looking

My first thought was a re-plated coin, that may be aiding the look of an RPM but it does not look re-plated. Something does not look right about it for an RPM, though. Maybe deterioration?

After looking again, I see a similar look around the 4. I'm definitely leaning towards deterioration.

Yep, I would agree with die deterioration. Look at the 4, same effect.

Thanks Jon and T for your evaluations!! Did die deterioration also cause the nub or extra serif like protrusion on the east perpendicular? Thanks, Larry

At this point, all I can see is deterioration but you have the coin in hand and can probably see things better.

Not sure of the nub of which you speak [not seeing anything], the black & whites are kinda fuzzy.

An RPM that pronounced on an 80-year-old coin would have been documented by now [I should think]. I still believe it to be DD.

Here is the nub I was referring to T.

Ahh, the 'other east'. :LOL_Hair:

I will parrot Jon's response -- "At this point, all I can see is deterioration but you have the coin in hand and can probably see things better".

I see what you're seeing, but it seems too expansive to me to be an RPM, meaning the doubling is too big in multiple directions.

Thanks Will and what I was focusing on the nub below the upper serif. Larry

Well, if we agree there is ALSO die deterioration, then I can't rule out an RPM to the south. You'd have to send it to an attributor probably. Not sure if there's enough there to hang your hat on or not, but there's plenty of listings based on less, that's for sure. I would start by soliciting Bob's analysis on it.
