It is a misaligned die on the Obverse. The Reverse was struck normally.
Just so you know you posted correctly in the right category of "Off Topic Discussion"
Looks normal to me. Give ya $100 for it. Just kiddin. No idea.

Many of the early fifties nickles were very poorly struck, I hade to search through hundreds putting my MS set together, It looks as though this is one of the worst I have seen if this is the case.
