I know one member of the board personally and have talked with another. This is an interesting position and they are looking for a person who has a solid backround. No legal or finacial issues, it is a matter of record that you might want to have at least an MA or MS under your belt. Phd. would be a slam dunk. Preferably have been published, have a knowledge of United States coinage and United States History, and you must have the time to be able to travel to meetings and it is on your dime until reimbursed by the GAO. It would most certainly help if you have connections, such as recommendations from a Congress person, Senator, State Legislature, Governor, have had military experience, maybe you are friend of the SOT or better yet the Vice-President, or the top man altogether.
