I'm not sure if there are any known RPMs for 1974S, but I don't have access to all RPM files (they could be out there). i think the S on your coin looks like a normal blob S variety for 1974. The bottom looks normal. I see something west, but i think it is jsut a hit. The top serif looks interesting, but it also could be a well placed hit. The surface looks pretty banged up. It could be something but others might need to weigh in on it.
The anomaly to the west can not be a split serif as it is not on the serif, nor is it in a place where a split would show, I believe Greg is correct in that the mintmark took a hit.

Sorry, WEST. I'll except that but do I see two balls (S) on the bottom? There is a straight split at the top that the camera didn't pick up. Still a hit?
