Hey gang,
Ive been on the PCGS forums for a few years now, and I joined the LCR I guess a few months ago. Never had time to post until now, but it's my day off. So here goes nothing...
I gravitated towards lincoln cents during childhood after my grandfather handed me a redbook one day. I flipped that book open and landed right on the curious image of a lincoln that appeared to be struck twice: the famous 1955! "Doubled Die," my grandfather corrected me.
Everything about that coin intrigued me, and I soon learned that there was another doubled die in 1972, and again in 1983, and yet again in 1984! I vowed to obtain one of each, to mow lawn after lawn until I achieved my goal.
Well, this lasted up about until the time I noticed that girls also have things that are doubled, and my priorities changed.
Flash forward until the year 1995. USA Today prints a front page article of the newly discovered 1995 DDO. And, I'm baaaaaack. But this time I think I can just find one. Searching through loose change, couch cushions, cash register drawers. I even picked up pennies found on sidewalks, never finding one.
It didnt deter me, though, and I began to read all I could about lincoln cent varieties.
Publications like Wexler's book on the 95 ddo's and Flynn and Wexler's authoritative book on lincoln cents are great reads for anyone searching rolls or building sets larger than the varieties found in the cherrypicker's guide.
So, Im here today to learn more and hopefully contribute some to the conversation.
