This letter D doesn't look like the same D as seen on Variety Vista.
The bottom tail sits too far out.
Maybe this one got hit hard? I see no sign of a double strike.

It seems to me there are a number of reasons a MM can look different such as the angle it was hammered into the die to wear on the punch.

If it was me trying to identify a possible new MM, I would search for BU examples and try and find more than one example to make my case along with a detailed analysis of how it was different.
