Hello!

I took a chance on a hunch and purchased this silver dime from a local coin dealer. I purchased it on account of it being labeled a "Die Break" coin. Through the voice of a skeptic, I talked him down on the price due to his lack of confidence in his "Die Break" label. What do you think is going on with this coin?

The section in question on the obverse is raised.

Thank you for looking.

I'm not real up on these but just a guess that it may also have been struck on a damaged planchet. Can you post a photo of the edge or does it appear to be normal.

The edge of the planchet in the "break" area is not reeded; The rest of the dime's edge is.

Here are some photos as requested:

Could be a flawed planchet or some kind of PMD. Maybe a close up of the last A in AMERICA would clear it up.

Jason,

Thank you for your help! Here is a picture of the "A". The best I could do.

Something about the way the A is disturbed that makes me think PMD. If the planchet was damaged pre-strike the design should reside on the upper regions, not below.

Maybe Mike Diamond will chime in...
