1955-d "BIE" penny? and another coin

Just started collecting coins a few days ago and I know the basics, can anyone help identify these few coins?

    Simonm,
Welcome to the LCR... I'm not one of the pros' here... I just started up a few months ago... There quite a few members that know between them everything you could ever ask... If you wish to learn alot about the different errors and varieties there are several sites to visit... The first would be to click on the tab above that says "The Resource"... Lots of info there... Jason one of the pros has a site called errorvariety.com... He is an awesome photographer and has a way of explaining the different items that makes it easy to understand... Also visit traildies.com, coppercoins.com, maddieclashes.com and conecaonline.org... This will be a good start on learning... Do not hesitate to ask questions or post pics of your finds because someone will be able to help... Again Welcome to the LCR!!!

      Thanks Jim

I actually had errorvariety.com bookmarked a few days ago and have scoured through the site. Thanks for the resources, i'll check it out! Any opinion on the 1983 would be helpful though, because I have checked lots of websites and can't get an answer. There's a small, C or D shaped print on the lower right hand side of the mintmark. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I'm just starting out.

Go to coppercoins.com and do a die variety search... The link is on the left side of the page about a quarter of the way down... That should help!!!

          Thanks again

Hey Jim, to me it looks like a rotated repunched mintmark, although the specific picture doesn't quite match what I found. Thanks again.

Welcome simonm! Jim did a great job covering the info area and like he said, the pro's check in quite often and are very helpful, so are a lot of the more experienced members.

The second pic shows a nice die crack commonly called a BIE error. In the first pic there appears to be a plating error or corrosion near the MM (mintmark). Just my opinion.

Sorry for the delay, I still have not caught up on unread posts.

                  Welcome to the forum!

A nice BIE and I agree with Greg a plating issue below the mintmark on the '83...

                    That's a nice Bie error.

You just posted in a thread that is almost 6 years old. You just welcomed a guy who joined 6 years ago, made thousands of posts, became a moderator, went off to college, lost interest in the site, and is no longer active.
