Got this ASE today and on one side there is extra material that makes a high rim. What do you think? Does this add any extra value to the coin?

I can't really see it, but it looks possible that the dies might have been slightly misaligned. This tends to give a coin a "double rim" and is quite common. There are other possibilites. That being said, I am going off your description more than your photos, as they are too blurry.Wendell Carper
It's a bird! It's a plane! Aw nuts... It's merely two die scratches! -
It could be a finned rim with a slightly misaligned hammer die, but I have to check if the reeded edge would be higher too as I cannot remember that detail off hand.

I will see if I can get better pics tonight. Its kind of hard to photo this without the right light.
The area that is raised is very thin and can bee seen in the 2nd pic. The 3rd pic if you look close you can see that there is a hump in the reeded area. This "extra area" makes the coin out of round.Comment

As Jason said, it is more than likely a finned rim. This occurs when the collar is a bit worn and the metal flow extends into the area between the die and the collar. This leaves a higher than normal rim of thin metal or a finned rim.

This is indeed a finned rim, but finning has nothing to do with collar wear. It results from abnormally high ram pressure or increased effective striking pressure at one pole as the result of slight die tilt.Comment
