I bought this set today and seen some thing on one of the coins. The quarter. Can any one tell me if these marks are right? The eagles mouth, the wing tips.

Let me ask another question. This is were I get confused some times. You say master die is doubled. Does that mean double die? If not please explain? When I here master die doubling,I think double die. I would like to send this one in. A beautiful coin with a very high grade higher then 67

Technically, master die doubling is a doubled die, however, it is not a doubled die that commands a premium. Master die doubling affects all or most of the coins struck with that die. Since the master die makes hundreds of working hubs, which in turn make hundred of working dies, which in turn make hundreds of thousands of coins, this doubling will appear on most coins of that year. 100 times 100 times 300,000 equals 3 billion. I'd say it affected all the coins of that year from those numbers.

Doubled Working dies are the collectable varieties.

One thing I should note is that the die life of a proof working die is significantly less than the business strikes, therefore, if it had been a doubled working die, there would probably only be thousands of specimens instead of hundreds of thousands.

In other words, while it is technically a "doubled die," it isn't in the sense that most people mean when they say "doubled die." As a doubled Master die, you do not need to send it in. Look and you should find duplicate doubling elsewhere, albeit it will show up better on your high-grade proof for obvious reasons.

Very well said Wendell. It's nice to see that even the younger folks have so much knowledge to pass on.
Frank, the only reason I would send a master die coin in would be if it is a high grade coin. The value is in the grade, not the master doubling.

I thought Wendell said he wasn't a pro... Are you really 50 years old with 30+ years of collecting experience???... Very well said and easy to grasp the concept... You and Jason C. should hook up... You would make an awesome team... You would also make a great attributer!!!

LOL!!! I may have a pseudonym (DoubleYou), but I don't have a pseudautobiography!

pseudonym: a false name

pseudautobiography: a false account of one's life.
