    Steel Cents + Naval Jelly

    Here is a before & after pics of a pretty bad steel cent.
    It was soaked in naval jelly over night then rinsed off.


    This is the color of naval jelly.


    It makes searching steelies a whole lot easier.

    I guess if it is that corroded than a little corrosive cannot make it any worse. Your third pic reminds me of that horror movie The Blob...

      It reminds me of science lab waaaaaay back when...looking into a microscope at germ samples. YUK!
      But seriously, "petroleum jelly" softens the dirt to be removed more easier.

        I was under the impression that naval jelly removed rust. Usually used in the auto body industry. I could be wrong though. But quite a difference nonetheless!
        And The Blob was such a corny movie! But had Steve McQueen, one of my favorite actors.

            These are so common, cheap and easy to obtain I don't think it's worth the effort. LOL
