Hi Andy,
I use 5x or 7x for general searching. If I spot something that needs an up close and personal view I will switch to 10x or 16x. My reason for starting out with a larger width lens is because my eyesight suffers from using a very small sized loupe all the time.

I need to get a 10x or 16x look - where did you get yours?

The general rule with magification is this: The more you magnify, the more light you need.Comment

Ihave a 10x and a 25x that are on the same loupe and if needed to be, You can slide them together and look at an error from across the room!!..WORKS GREAT.Comment

Hi Roger,
If you do not have a coin dealer in your area, try craft stores, hobby stores, etc.
There are a myriad of types of loupes you can use. The 'triplet' loupes will have three different strengths which you can gang together for higher magnification.
I bought my first 10x loupe from Whitman... the coin book people.
You could also type into your search engine 'Bausch and Lomb' and find all kinds of magnifiers.
Remember, the higher the power the smaller the viewing area of the loupe and the more light you need for viewing.
Good luck on your search.
