Just catching the tail end of this. You would think the punch would wear out and be discarded. How difficult can it be to make a new one? Really in depth Will.

A very interesting paradigm shift Will! Can't wait to hear more about your findings and get to see Ray's awesome photos! Here's a link to Variety Vista SF MM's so folks can see what the MMS-004 and MMS-009 look like.Comment

Very interesting... Makes me wonder if MMS-009 http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20D...k%20Styles.htm is not a doubled punch but instead damaged from a rework to allow the continued use??? With the tools available at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) it is conceivable that is what occured???Jim
(A.K.A. Elmer Fudd)Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!

You're Welcome and thought it might be a good starting point to research which US produced foreign coins might have a MM.Comment

I have checked all my USPI coins and they are mostly Ball Serif. Interestingly, the list does not include the 1947-S MacArthur commemorative 50C and Peso, which indeed have S Mintmarks. My 50C has MMS-007, but the Peso appears to be MMS-008, which is strange since it did not come into service on US circulating coins until 1952. Maybe other folks have the MacArthur coins and could check the MM? I'd bet the most potential for finding MMS-004 is in the Centavos from 41-44, but I can't seem to find the ones I own. Need to dig deeper.Builder of Custom Coin Photography Setups. PM me with your needs or visit http://macrocoins.comComment

I'm getting closer! Can't tell if it's an MMS-003 or a spread from circulation MMS-005 but regardless, not an MMS004.Attached FilesComment

I checked dealer stock on a 1944-S Centavo, about 20 1944-S 50 C, and a 1945-S 50C at the Santa Clara show on Friday. All ball serif. Bought one of each anyway...Builder of Custom Coin Photography Setups. PM me with your needs or visit http://macrocoins.comComment
