1970S Small date found in the wild!

I just wanted to share a recent find. It is a 1970S small date! I never thought I would find one of these in the wild but I did! Searching for 1960, 1970S, and 1982 small dates are what originally got me interested (and eventually addicted) to varieties. In the beginning I always got excited when I found a 1970S in my pile of cents - hopeful it was going to be a small date. However, after years and years I finally came to the understanding that they are just too rare in the wild - so I broke down and bought one. Well, I guess they can really be found out there!

    Thanks for looking!

Thanks everyone. I was always worried that I would miss one even if it did come across my loupe.

Way to go Dave!! Not an easy feat at all! There does seem to be a small number of these still circulating. They might have come from broken up mint sets, that were later spent as normal change? Whatever the source, this find is a real milestone. Nice work!!

I've never even seen a circ example of a 70-S SD.

Most of them came from mint sets.
The best way to cherry them is look at dealers mint sets.

Also look at dealers singles, many 70 mint sets got cut up because people wanted the 70-D halves (which only came in mint sets) so a lot of dealers put the rest of the sets into flips and if there was a SD cent it gets tossed into their cent inventory unless they noticed it.
