Dino-Lite vs Amscope? Best scope camera?

I figured I should bring this discussion out of the newbee forum...

I am in need of a camera scope for taking clear picks of doubling, die cracks, etc...

I WAS looking at the Dino-Lite AM3100, but it was suggested that the Amscopes are better...

    Your opinions please?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Bear- this topic has been discussed so many times there's no way to count. I'm sure several members will chime in with their preference, but you might get a better perspective by doing a search on previous threads for the subject. Do separate searches with key words like "amscope", "microscope & beginner" and the like. There's a lot of information contained in LCR's previous threads.

Personally- I'd recommend staying away from Dino-Lites. Amscope makes a great product, but be sure that the camera's software is compatible with your operating system- (windows 7 is tricky).

    Welcome and good luck!

Bear, I have a dino lite. Can't remember the model number, it just says 'premier' on the camera. It is really good for close-up pics around 200-240 power, and even 60x isnt too bad. But everything else (for photos) has been tricky--especially with the lighting. I really can't count on it for 'good' picture taking, and it even keeps me from posting some of my pics! It works ok for finding the errors and varieties, but it is truly tough for getting photos with the quality you see from alot of these guys. Usually, the pics are too 'digital' looking. I paid $180 inc. shipping, and it has been a great beginner tool. (It has a good program too, with lots of tools you can use.)
If you get a Dino Lite, make sure you get the one like mine that has a Light ShutOff so you can use diffused and alternate lighting sources.
I haven't searched the forum for other discussion on this subject because I already bought my digital camera. Guess I should go back and look at those posts to see how I could improve my pics until I get something better.
I just wanted to share my experience to help you decide. PM me if you want more info.

I agree! Not everything we have been using with XP, and other systems will work on windows 7~ I found out in a hurry./
The one I bought recently does not work, and I have software encoming to make it usable on CXP-PRO. I got two new windows 7 units for the price of one, and wish they were as useful as my old standby. I'll learn the 64-bit crap, in time, but it won't be easy! Thwn there is the question of the other older equipment that has been so useful with the older systems. It could get expensive. I cheated with the windows 7, and use Google Chrome, to surf, and work. It is great, and also free.
          Hope this helps!
          Cheers,
          Dick

I recently bought an AmScope back in December. My first scope. I like it a lot. I didn't like the run around they gave me regarding a few issues and overcharges. But I like what I'm using regardless of.

              WOO-HOOO!!!

I just got off an hour and a half phone call with the Amscope a bit ago- BOTH OF MY SCOPES are up and running now! The tech guy remotely accessed my desktop and installed the software onto my computer for me. That was wierd, lol.

I have been frustrated by the software's incompatibility with Windows 7, but in all fairness, these cameras came out before the updated version of Windows did. I feel the company went above and beyond. Every business is going to have it's issues, but again, Amscope has always stood behind what they sell. I'm glad to have done business with them and they'll be the only place I look if I ever upgrade.
