    Could it be such a high grade? I have heard there is a couple of MS-68 that went for more then $8,000.00 each.

    Steel cent varieties and errors always carry a premium. A MS67 steel cent is around $100.

    I agree the steel cents tend to run higher, but as someone who worked in an auction house, I can tell you that sometimes auctions produce weird results if by chance two or more bidders simply want something and won't give up. I have seen examples where someone paid more than retail for something at auction as they got into a bidding war with someone else. I cannot say that is the case here, but the price does seem more than it should be.

    I been telling people for years to buy high grade regular D's & S's. When in an RPM or doubled die in these years in original skin 66 or above they get tough and are rare!
