This is a possible RPM, can't find an exact match though. Maybe someone has seen one like this one. It looks like CC IMM-007 but the die scratches do not line up exactly right. Some help needed on this one. Thanks.........................dinkyblue
1947 S Sans-serif MM RPM?

Hello, and thank you for your response, yes it does seem to match some similar die scratches, and the MM is in the correct position. The IMM-007 on CC site also lists the FS-01 and FS-504 the same as Variety Vista. It would be logical to assume that this one is in a different stage, could very well be stage "D" or maybe another stage due to the die scratches positioning. Maybe someone else will have some ideas. Thanks.........................DanComment

It is rather difficult to attribute this RPM. You have the coin in hand whereas we do not. Remember that the mintmark position much match perfectly. You may or may not have all markers present (it depends on die state). The makers you do find can not be 'close'. They too should match exactly except what we might expect from die wear. Ultimately, it may require the use of an overlay. Do you know how to to them?Bob Piazza

Dan,
The coin has the same marker's as my attributed RPM#4 stage "D"
I have stage "A-B-D" the die scratch pattern changes on the OBV with die wear.Last edited by eaxtellcoin; 03-01-2017, 04:32 PM.Comment

I could be wrong but when I enlarge #4 to 500% (using Jim's suggestion), there appears to be a die crack extending from the end of the top serif to the east. Am I seeing things or is a die crack there or a scratch? Thanks in advance.Comment

I have used overlay's for my Morgan and peace dollar collection, and I have some overlay's for Lincoln cents, as far as using them, I have to say no.I wasn't aware that an overlay was available for RPM's. Where do I find them? I usually just try and match them by site. I wish overly's were available for all error coins, it would make finding a match a lot faster, and life easier for everyone. Uglycent suggested the same as eaxtellcoin VV RPM#4 stage D and possible die ware on the obverse could be the reason that the die scratches don't line up exactly. If there is an overlay please point me in that direction. Thank you for all your help..................DanComment

I would say that if Eric (eaxtellcoin) gave you an attribution, it is probably correct. He is one of our RPM gurus here and there isn't much he misses. I would go with RPM-004 as well. It's just a scratch, and thank you for your input, it does seem to be #4.................Dan
As far as overlays go, you can go to a site like coppercoins and use those photos of the date/mintmark. Remember that the photos are copyrighted material, but as far as using them to perform overlays for your own use, we have no heartache with that. Any time you use them for anything other than personal use, you must obtain permission from myself or Chuck Daughtrey.
Just an additional note...if you need to enlarge something by 500%, you are looking too close. Ideally, 10-20% should be fine to identify a variety and a marker. The coin photos on the site usually use no more than 35% magnification.Bob Piazza

Nice find... Comparing yours with VVs Stage D http://varietyvista.com/02a%20LC%20R...947SRPM004.htm there are abrasions running off to the SE from your lower loop that appear to match VVs sample... But the look of yours I would say a late Stage D or even Stage E!!!Jim

Yes, RPM 004 seems to be the correct match. I always get permission if I have to use copyrighted material.Talk about heartache, I just found a 1972 D a ddo, and the R in trust is totally gone or damaged due to heavy circulation wear, What do ya do with damaged coins like this? Thank you for your response to my attribution request. You know when you are not sure about something and then the answer is found, it gives one a satisfaction of completion. Thanks...................DanComment

I never knew there was a stage E. Wait til to see this 1972 D ddo of some kind or to be determined, it looks like it has been through the mill, a whole lot of circulation wear on both sides, I'll post it soon. Variety Vista RPM 004 is close enough for me, unless it fits better into stage E. As always, Thank you for your attribution.......................DanComment
