Error Other | "Unusual" 1924-S Goiter Neck

These are available attributed but I always wanted to pick one and I finally did ( Ebay of course) !
This one seems to be an earlier die state than others I have seen pics of. It actually looks more like an Xray of the spinal column than just a bulge in the neck. Happy to finally pick one never the less !

It does seem to represent an earlier stage. Typical examples show straight sides, with each side demarcated by a thin die crack. The margins on this one are irregular and no cracks are visible.

Holy crap...almost looks like an X-Ray of MY neck too - can almost make out the hardware I have in it now!

I never knew these were an error till this post. Learning all the time here!!

Never quite understood the "goiter" appellation. It looks more like a distended external jugular vein.

I have come across this type of anomaly and tossed the coin in the past. Is there a premium attached or is it just a curiosity?

This one does carry a bit of a premium probably because it has a name .

Makes me wonder where the terminology came from.
Seen it wrote on very old looking flips in collections that I thought were from the 60s or older and old timers I knew used the term.
They all knew what a goiter cent was. Strange?
