1909 P DDR Transitional (Newly desgnated)

Well, I got outbid for this 1909 DDR and hadn't even attributed which one it was but I'm sure someone in the know saw this auction as well.

There seems to be a die crack (precud?) under the front portion of the bust but the uneven color (suedo-woody?) makes it a little difficult to confirm. I was hoping to get it in hand to be able to make that determination.

I'm going out on a limb saying it may be a new die stage. Hopefully one of the authors of the study picked it up and will get it listed. Maybe someone here can determine which transitional variety it is (DDR-013 thru DDR-019)

Anyways, here are the images from the seller. They are pretty decent but I can only enlarge so much before the pixels come out to play.

It would be DDR 17-19 as those others (13-16) are designated for VDB coins. #19 does show a die crack at the bust if thats the area you are seeing your die crack.

This will be no doubt a difficult endeavor since there are so many cents made and so many DDR to find. Made even more difficult with crappy eBay pics. But a great number of 1909 cents will be found at coin shows and should be easily determined if they are any of those new DDR's.

      Thanks Bob.
(I neglected to note which were VDB varieties. I'll post an image later of what I think is a die crack. It was under the right half of the bust (lapel area) not near the shoulder.

I can see the 2 ends of the crack but can not tell if it is on the jacket or not with the texture of the jacket???

Glad I wasn’t one of the bidders bidding against you Cliff. It was already too high when I finally saw it. It’s a pretty DDR.

Definitely a class lll DDR. I didn’t see this one come through our group. These are going to be tough, I just sent 6 p mint examples, and another S mint to Dr. Wiles for attribution, the p mints I couldn’t match up to any of the P’s that got listed. The S mint has a different mintmark location than the others. Should be a few more listings, maybe a new stage or 2? I couldn’t quite figure them out. Nice catch seeing this one.

Thanks Jay42. I had to leave half an hour prior to the end of the auction and was surprised somewhat by the bid activity that early in the am. (Auction ended at 7:30 am)

And CoinmanJay, Thanks and thanks for adding about this one slipping through your group's dragnet. Word has evidently caught on.
