I suppose this is abrasion on the S to make it look like a ball serif, but it sure looks convincing and none or the other '69 D's I have looked at have a ball serif on the S of PLURIBUS. It also looks like the EPU is doubled from the thickness of the letters and the oval dots. I can'tfind an attribution for the doubling. Any thoughts?

There's no reason for the S to be a ball serif type as all of these letters were on the original master die, and were engraved...not punched. You are probably correct in that normal wear, or some other action caused it to look this way. I'm afraid I don't see anything remarkable about the reverse motto either George. It might be just plain wear. Sorry...Bob Piazza
