1989D DDR? or too much MD?

    1989D DDR? or too much MD?

    Here is an example of a 1989D Lincoln Cent.

    It appears to have either machine doubling or plating doubling.

    But, it also appears to have extra thickness on the initials. Is that caused by the (above mentioned) doubling?

    Can both exist?

      Yep, MD. The extra thickness on the initials could be from wear.

        Could you get a closeup of the inits... There appears to be a split in the upper curve of the "G" but I can not really tell!!!

          Thats classic Machine Doubling,when ever you see that flat shelf like doubling,M.D will always give you the kiss of death!!

            There is MD, but the extra thickness is separate. I've seen this thickness many times on the 1989s, but never could find any notching. It's found on coins from both mints. I'm thinking that there was a class 6 doubled working hub and all notches have been obscurred.
