    44 Fake?

I posted a couple of pictures of this yesterday in reference to why these turn rusty or red. And a paint job was the answer. But after studying it I saw a sliver hue throughout the edges, and in a few other places shown in these pictures. I actually think its fake because of so many coins that I have found lately have been altered. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure I would know why anyone would want to fake a very common coin, and then beat it up to make it look like it was wore out and damaged? Maybe I'm missing something from another thread.

I agree with Rock. Why would someone fake a coin where over 430 million were minted? It sure looks like it was painted or coated with something. I can not explain the 'silver hue' you are seeing though.

        Probably just environmental damage.

Brad said something yesterday that I could see also. Could this have been heated then let sit. I.E. No water to cool?

I re-looked at the pics and again I think a youngster put the coin in paint, someone later may have tried to dip it in thinner to remove the paint. It is altered/damaged.
