How do I check for a gas bubble, try and pop it like a pimple or something ?

Gently but firmly rub a toothpick over it. Wet to soften the tip first. If it creases or you see some change it's a bubble.

Yes, looks like a bubble to me too, at best a chip because the shape doesn't resemble any part of the ear.

It probably just a bubble. The spot doesn't look anything like the ear at all. Good eye though. I probably would have missed that all together

I think its a boil. Apply a very hot damp cloth and try to open it and let it drain.
