Hello ,
I have found a few coins like this & now this is the second 1983 I've found (the other has the same error on the "8") I was wondering what type of error this is . Thank you
Looks like the plating split with underlying corrosion in the B of LIBERTY and a die crack from the memorial to the rim. The B or 8 could (in this case or others) end end with die chipping and appear filled, just this time with some corrosion on top.
I have a couple of 1983s where there are die chips in the B of LIBERTY and the 8 of the date. You may want to check the one with the die chip on the 8 with the one at the following link. It is a DDO and the chip is a primary marker for it.

I thank you for the link also. But for the original poster, Jason didn't say it was a split planchet. He said it looked like "plating split" with corrosion. There is a huge difference.

I honestly have no idea what he said . but to me , I meant it looks like the plating spilt on the second coin I posted up here . I didnt mean a spilt planchet , I meant spilt plating . - I just found a third 1983 like this though so I am now guessing they arnt that rare heh. What I am wondering though are these errors or just damage to the coin ?
