Should I send my lincoln in for certification??

Hi all! I have a beautiful 1970-s Large date lincoln. My grandfather ( smart man he was) put it in a 2x2 so it is uncirculated. Ok to get down to business. This Lincoln has doubling on the complete date, nose, chin and forehead. It is hard to make out if In god we trust is as well. I am thinking about sending to ANACS to have it authenticated. Since they are doing a 10 for $100.00 sale and it will cost a little more to have the die variety listed.

From what I can gather if it is, this is the third rariest ddo lincolns thats exist. My camera isnt that special to be able to get a good pic of it but maybe I will try. So whats the consenses about this???

I am not aware of any known 1970S variety with the doubling as you describe. My first guess would be machine doubling, but it would help to see a photo. Before sending it in and spending even $10 for certification, it would sure be nice to know for sure if you have a nice variety, or a common machine doubled cent. There were an awful lot of those in 1970...especially 1970S.

We would definitely need to see pictures to give you any kind of accurate answer.

Your pictures are actually pretty good....but not enough for us to determine what it is. Angled pics generally distort the view and the plastic of the 2x2 has too much reflection. If you remove the coin for pics,be sure to handle by the edges only...and as you can see somebody has already put a fingerprint on it.

OK...you are getting there...now remember what I said about angles....they only distort things. Try dead on shots of the date ,Liberty, anywhere you see doubling. You really are doing pretty good.

Try and get one of the date like you did In God We Trust. It looks like MD to me though.

Hey Scott 99, as I look at it I can see the s/s as well. The entire date and mint mark are doubled. I guess I am going to send it to Bill Fivaz and see what he thinks about it. Wont cost me that much for him to take a look and see what he thinks. I know there are a few varities of this date out there but this one seems different. Crossing fingures and hoping for the best I well post info on here as soon as I know something.

                        Thanks all!

I would say that its machine doubling which doesn't add any premium to the coin. It will save you $$ determining if it is machine doubling before deciding to send it for attribution. Pretty coin but I wouldn't spend the money to send it in if it were mine.

LOL Plating doubling. Haven't heard that happening back in 1970. I agree that it is definitely MD. Sorry.
