1926 woody gone wrong?

I think another member posted a thread about a coin similar to my question but his coin was much more identifiable.

My question is, is this just a crappy looking woody; lamination in progress or a very weak split planchet?

Apologies for the parts and pieces of pictures, I can't seem to grab a full coin photo.

Lara- woody, lamination, and split planchets are all variations of the same animal- alloy impurities. Your coin exhibits lamination streaks. Laminations are different from woodies in that the surface of a woodgrain planchet is not disrupted by the impurities.

I think this is a very light lamenation. The woodies don't have the split in the planchet life the OP coin. Also laminations flow in straight lines and this coin is showing this. Collectable? I don't think it would bring an extra premium.

Thank you Chris, I knew that they were all interconnected, I guess kind of like a die break, gouge, chip break cud.
I never heard of "lamination streaks" before. To me that was what I thought, just not in those words lol. Thanks for your imput!

While we are on the subject...
If I remember correctly and anyone that knows about the difference between lamination and delamination please chime in.
I read somewhere that a lamination peel runs in a straight line usually starting from the rim of the penny. So would lamination streaks eventually peel up, depending on the strength of the coin?
& delamination can occur anywhere in any form/shape?

To the best of my knowledge, "Delamination" isn't a technical term, but CCF forum lingo, at least that's where I first heard it.

A "detatched lamination" is a piece of planchet that has come off due to a lamination on the coin.

A lamination can occur anywhere on the coin, as it is a result of impurities in the metal and doesn't have anything to do with the rim specifically.

Yes, while a lamination is usually linear due to the planchet sheet rolling process, they can be irregular as well.

Good point RLM....so would we call this cent a "delamination" ? Lamination is how the planchet was made, the seperation should then be delamination..or am I missing something ?

Roger, I agree with you. If it is technically correct for the description of lamination peel/layer being removed from the coin, then it should be added into the numismatic vocabulary.
