    Need input on a couple (70S & 84D RPM)

I'm questioning both of these. The 70S I was almost sure it was a small date until I took some pictures of it a few minutes ago. Now, I am not very sure at all.

I'm also wondering if the 84D is really an RPM. Sure looks like it is under my loop, but not as obvious by the pictures.

Thanks everyone! Even if these are both negatives I'm stil happy with the other finds from my recent brick. Good luck hunting!! Bill

    ### added some more pics of the 84D.. Thanks, Bill

I look at a lot of 1970S cents. You have a large date 1970s. Just remember the inner part of the 9 curls up and points to the center of the 7 not towards the bottom of the 7. It can get tricky with some large dates because some nines are different. I have been keeping different shaped 9's so I can take pictures and show the different ones I have found. When you find one there is no question about it. Use the small date large date thread and print out the pictures... that is a great way for a fast reference when looking at the 70S cent. Also check the other key markers.. fading Liberty, placement of the mint mark... Hope that helps. And good luck with your search, hope you find one!

Not sure about the D on the 84... I don't see one listed like that. i see a lot of 84 with plating issue on that side of the D, i hope it's not that. lets see what the other say about that

Yep, I was hoping, and have looked at over 250 of these without finding one yet. It sure is deceptive in hand, but when I took the pics and looked at them on my PC I was pretty sure it was a large too. The cent itself is also in pretty rough shape which didn't help matters. Thanks!! Back to the hunt! Bill

I agree with Karah. The 1970-S is definitely a large date, sorry. Even worse, the 1984-D exhibits MD and is not an rpm. Many have given up searching the mid to late 80's cents due to all of the confusing MD and plating issues, but if you spend enough time on them there are still good finds to be made. Sorry, we couldn't give better news, but you still made some awesome finds in that group!

As noted, the '70S is a Large Date. I suspect that the '84D needs a few more images. I won't rule out anything yet, based upon these images. Try a few different angles.

          Thanks,
          Bill

No problem, it's nice to be able to help... finally lol. I am still learning and love every minute of it. Sometimes seeing the coin on my computer screen helps me see things I never saw before with the loupe too. However I find that takes up a lot of my time. So I am TRYING to search through one year at a time so I can use coppercoins and study key markers for each to speed up the process. By the end of the night I get a bit spastic though, I need to learn to not post when I am tired lol.

            Have fun searching!

Large date and the '84 appears to be MD.

Thanks everyone, my suspicions were confirmed! LOL One of these days that elusive little bugger (70S) is gonna end up under my loop! "foundinrolls" I'll try to get some more angles tomorrow, but thinking it probably is MD. Two reasons to hate the 80s...RPMs and Disco!! Bill
