    1958 poor mans double die

Here's a 1958 cent poor mans double die. i know there;s a 55 PMDD but did you ever hear of a 58 one I have several of these about 10 I found them in a roll of 58 cemts. The 8 is doubled from die deterioration same as the 55 with the last last 5 doubled.

Looks like a well placed die chip (Obverse) by your photos.

The 50's are full of dates where the last digit is deteriorated enough to show this type of doubling. The term 'Poor Man's Doubled Die' pertains to the 1955 cent, but folks have taken it to mean any coin showing this die deterioration. To the undereducated collector, this leads to confusion, and to some suspect EBay sellers, a chance to earn a buck or two by misstating what the anomaly is. I would rather folks use the correct terminology, but unfortunately, that is not going to happen when dealing with these types of coins.

I understand what you mean by the correct terninolgy. The 55 double we all no is the king of the dds and is one of the most popular coins to have with collectors that's why the poor mans dd was born most collectors cound't afford those.

The 58 double die is somewhat popular with collectors so why not have a 58 poor mans dd since that one is so exspensive to obtain and rare, and to be honest with you I havn;t come across lincoln cents with the last digit doubled from Die deterioration doubling only the 55 and 58 to that degree of doubling ,and i have been searching for a hundred years

          Joe,
If you start looking for this anomaly on 1953 and 1954 coins, as well as the 55 and 58, you will be surprised at the sheer number of die deterioration in this area. I will post a few pics of them as soon as I can find them.

OK...here are a few of the dies I was talking about. These 1953, and 1954 dies have also been called poorman's doubled dies, but as we know, it is only the result of die deterioration.
