Have a 1970 penny that appears to have a missed stamped mint mark. Does anyone know or has anybody seen something like this before? Thanks for any help
Appears to be a stain. If it were a mint mark it would be raised higher from the field.
Richard S. Cooper Some have asked about my images I use, and I'm glad to say I've completed a DVD of these. Ask if you are interested. Newer members like these.
Welcome to LCR ! I think it looks pretty interesting and might be worth having Mike Diamond take a look. I don't think a stain would be raised at all and this looks raised to me.Since you have it in hand, can you tell us if it is indeed raised ?
Definately came to the right place for an answer! Coop could be right, but I hope someone else may have seen this before. It looks raised to me too, but Simple will have to let us know if it is. It is out of proportion, isn't it?
thanks everyone for the warm welcomes. I looked at the penny and it is definitely raised. Not sure who Mike Diamond is, still new to this. So what is the best thing for me to do with this other than selling it?
Mike Diamond just posted a thread about a new Type II Counterclash, you could PM him, or contact mustbebob (Bob Piazza) who attributes for Coppercoins.com, you'll find information on submitting varieties on that site.

I can have a look at it for you if you wish. It does not appear to be a mintmark. It may be some sort of damage, but I can't be sure until I have a look at it in hand. If you are interested, PM me and I will give you the info you need to submit it.
