    1960 small date?

    Hi all,

Just wanted to confirm this is a small date. Here is a pic of the date (out of focus, working on my bellows set up ) but you can see it. I am including the pic Jason put up for comparison. Thanks.

Well Chris really came through with this recent purchase. I bought several rolls from him and he sent the first two. Opened one and half way through, found 7 of these just like this. Have not even searched the whole roll yet. Thanks Chris!!!!

Very nice coin, I always look at the "D mint" small to compare to the "P mint" makes it easy.

Photos are great but I have a small date "D"That I still go back and compare with the philly

Stated from LCR:The best way to see the difference is get one of each and compare for yourself. Only the 1960 small
date is considered rare. The 1960 D small date is a common Lincoln cent. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/s...smalldate.html

              Hope this answered question.

I did that too at first then you realized how easy they are to spot after comparing for a while.

1960 D/D Large over Small date?

Hi, I'm new here and I was hoping to get some information about a particular penny i found in some rolls today. At first it simply seemed as though it was a RPM but after getting it under a miscrope it appears as though its a small over large variety... although I thought it was a large over small but the resources i've been able to find say it cannot be a large over small from the Denver mint... Any help would be appreciated.

oh and i'm probably in the wrong forum, if you could point me in that direction

Small date only. Here is an image of the 1960D-1MM-100

Note the size of the 0 in the date.
Your coin is just a normal one. There appears to be some coin wrapper damage on the SE corner on your coin.

Okay, thank you. I wasn't sure because of what looks like a second (tighter curling) 9 to the inside of the top 9. Thats what made me think it was a large over a small date.

oh well, better luck next time.

When first starting out, I also thought markings like yours were something special. After reading a little more and following the threads and seeing exact examples, you will find, your current thought of maybe "the one", will over time be like others who see another MD. Nothing wrong with your initial thoughts, believe me it happens, but over time you will find you pick up what to look for and what not. My suggestion would be, as you search now, you might be passing over some coins that might not be anything now because they don't look like that pic of the coin you posted or you really don't know exactly what to look for as I did and still don't in many cases. Don't get rid of them if you don't have to and after some experience, do a recheck and you will find some winners. I did.

With my find of 1960 D being small, I knew it is not as special as the 1960 small, but for me it was like finding the holly grail in a sense that I am hopefully developing the eye, over time, to know what to look for when examining.

Just keep reading the threads and you will pick up a great deal here.

Next time the best thing to do would be to make a new topic.
