1956 Lincoln Wheat Penny with Dot on the tip of the 9

    Hello all

I'm very new to coin collecting and it's my frst day as a member here so I will apologize in advance if my information and terminology is lacking. I have a question about a 1956 Lincoln Wheat Penny that I found that has a dot on the tip of the 9 on the date. I researched quite a bit and the closest information that I have found is located on this forum here: http://www.lincolncentresource.com/OMMS/1956wdmm1.html although it doesn't speak of a dot but rather an S mint mark.

I have taken some pictures of the penny and placed them on Photobucket and can be found here:

I'm not sure if this dot is a fake, ding or an error so any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

First of all, welcome to LCR! As for your coin, from the pictures provided, sorry to say it just looks like a stain. Even if the "dot" would be raised, which yours doesn't look like it is, it would be the result of die damage and it wouldn't be anything of value. Stick around, read, learn, and enjoy. This is a great place to learn.

Welcome to LCR! Great place to learn. This site can be a VERY useful tool to learn about the Lincoln Cent Series. Don't forget to do searches on here for threads about your questions. Also, on the home page, there are links to many useful sites for attribution of your coin's anomaly.
Have fun learning from the best here!

Welcome to LCR! It is the best Lincoln cent forum I have had the fortune to visit. Also, be sure to click on the "Homepage" and check out all the other resources they show and recommend. I still use all of them, and will continue to do so.

Welcome to the forum! I amended your post to have the pictures viewable as opposed to links. I agree a stain...
