1976 penny error or post-production modification?

Hi everyone, here is 1976 penny I found in circulation. Unlike a normal penny it has a rounded edge which has partially obscured the IN GOD WE TRUST on the observe and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the reverse. I also notice the detail of the penny over all is fuzzy. I'm thinking that someone attempting to make a ring or other piece of jewelry heated the penny to round the edges? I included a normal penny in one of the photos for comparison. Any insight regarding this penny would be much appreciated.

Round and round in a dryer! Or I guess they sit in the lint collector chamber?

That's exactly the point. Have fun. One day you'll find something great, and the more you find, the better you'll get, and the more you'll find.
