    1970 s rpm?

Hi all, I found the really nice 1970 S in a bank roll. After closer inspection I noticed what appeared to be a RPM but its not like the other RPMs I've seen. Please let me know what you think.

Looks like this year is suffering from a damaged "S" mint mark punch. Your coin has smooth fields. It maybe an EDS coin or a fresh polishing of the die. But check other examples from this year and you will see that this is common until they replace the damaged punch.

Sorry to say, but this is definitely not an rpm. The raised lines you see inside the upper and lower loops of the S result from strong striking pressure when the mint mark was applied by hand. This led the deepest parts of mint mark punch to "bottom out" leaving those lines. I had trouble searching S mint rpm's for quite a while before I learned what to look for. I always check for split serfs or separation lines on the upper or lower curves of the mm before making the rpm call. Keep searching and hopefully you will find one soon!

I think it is 1970 where the MM punch starts to show damage.
