    2.2gram penny?

I have a 1952 or 57 penny weighs 2.2 grams and has a very sharp sound to it any ideas?

2.2 is very light, considering that it should be about 3.11g. Are you able to post clear pictures of the coin?

Could be a case of a coin soaked in a corrosive. A lot of wheat cents over the years, one way or another, ended up soaking in something that ate away parts of the surface. Mint errors: struck on a rolled thin planchet or a split planchet; but we would need to see photos to speculate. The sound it makes when it is dropped doesn't mean too much alone.

Have to see a picture, the Mint errors I mentioned will look completely different than an acid soaked one.

Definitely PMD. Likely acid dipped. Keep up the hunt!

Lol, do you think there was a little corrosion here? Yeah, the lightness of the coin is due to post mint corrosion.

I might try and test it for silver cuz it sounds like it.

The funny sound it is making is due to the thinness of what is left of this coin.

If it were silver, it would be silver colored. Your coin is clearly damaged. The reason for the high resonance that you hear is it's lack of mass.

I have dozens and dozens of underweight and overweight planchets, real ones. I've always been able to spot them from the sound they make on a table, but it's at least 4 to 1 that I find PMD coins like your own when the resonance is off.
