    Same die?

Can it be that these two coins are from the same piston : ?

Both 9 have a small "die chip", and the L from Liberty is very much on border.

It would be fun after 55 years both coins again to bring together.

Don't quite know what you mean by same piston, but they could be struck from the same die. In that case, it is not so uncommon. All of a particular variety is struck from one die.

First, yes you are right, I did not know the right word for a die (I'm working on my vocabulary)

And, thanks for the answer, but a new question: How many coins can be generated before the die must be replaced?

      Best Regards from Germany ;)

        Erdnuss,

I do not believe these 2 cents were struck from the same die. The mint marks (buchstaben?) do not seem to match up. One of them looks more tilted than the other. Die chips in the numbers of the date are VERY common in these years due to overuse of the dies, so it is not unusual to see coins from different die pairings that both have similar chips in the numbers. I believe in some cases, close to a million coins could be struck from one die, but usually around 750k-900k on average.

ah okay, thanks for your answer, let's see what's hiding in the next roll!

          (and yes "Buchstaben" is correct)

          Danke und Grüße aus Deutschland
