    2013-D Die wear?

I would assume the mint is beating up the 2013 dies already. I just got this coin in pocket change here in Wichita and it looks to have some major die deterioration around the 3 and the D. Does this look like die deterioration to you all?

Cool... i know its not worth anything but i think ill put it in a 2X2 and hold onto it... Just so that years down the road i can show my kids that in February of 2013 they were already beating up the dies...lol. Looks like there will be plenty of die markers to help ID the varieties if any do start poping up on the 13-Ds... there are die chips and cracks all over the reverse of this coin in particular!

Actually I think they mint the coins sometime during the previous year. However, it would be a good deterioration example to reference. :-)

Assuming the offset area in question is incuse (recessed) then yes, die wear. If it is puffy, then it is a plating disturbance probably coupled with die wear.

Hardly a case of the mint 'beating up the dies'. The cause is simply striking coins and is a natural product of that process.

The dies don't live very long. Especially the single squeeze ones.
